Each year, the York Regional Police Association honours the contributions and legacy of Sergeant Frank Edwin Laskoski through our bursary program. Frank Laskoski served as an officer with York Regional Police for 24 years. During his time as an officer, he was also an active member with York Regional Police Association serving in the positions of President, First Vice-President, and Second Vice-President.
During the last six years of Frank’s life, he served as the President of York Regional Police Association, a position that was only part-time, not full-time as it is today. It was a difficult task fulfilling his full-time job as a Sergeant and following the mandate of the police force, while also acting as an Association President to settle issues and conflicts for his members. During his time at the association, Frank served as Chief Negotiator for York Regional Police contracts and Executive Member of the Police Association of Ontario. Frank devoted a great deal of his personal time to protecting and representing the interests of uniformed and civilian police personnel both in York Region and beyond.
On June 5, 1988, Frank’s life was tragically taken when he was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 9. Frank was survived by his wife Marilyn, and two children Drew and Donna.
In honour of Frank, York Regional Police Association established the Frank Laskoski Bursary. The bursary program is designed to assist the children of York Regional Police Association’s members that are pursuing post-secondary education, and are involved in their community, either through volunteer work, participation in sports activities or extracurricular activities.
Applications for the 2020 Frank Laskoski Bursary are now being accepted. The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 31, 2020.
