Thanks to widespread support, this year’s tournament marks a new high in charitable giving
York Regional Police Association (YRPA) hosted its 35th annual charity golf tournament on Wednesday, raising a record-breaking $20,000 in support of Community Living Central York and YRPA Benevolent Fund.
For more than three decades, the tournament has been a vital part of YRPA’s commitment to giving back. From 2016 to 2023 alone, the event contributed $63,000 to The Salvation Army Central York Region, alongside continued support for police-support programs.
“We are thrilled to announce that this year’s tournament has set a new fundraising record,” said Mike Buchanan, Acting President, York Regional Police Association and Chair of Golf Committee. “The generosity of our players, sponsors and community shows the incredible things we can achieve together – honouring those we’ve lost and helping those in need.”
Members of the YRPA Memorial Golf Committee present a $15,000 donation to Community Living Central York and $5,000 donation to YRPA Benevolent Fund.
This year, $15,000 of the funds raised will be donated to Community Living Central York, a non-profit charitable organization that supports over 800 individuals in York Region with diverse abilities, helping them to reach their full potential. The organization offers a variety of programs and services, including literacy, cooking and wellness program, supported living, respite care, employment programs and community connections that provide opportunities to explore education and leisure activities.
$5,000 will be donated to YRPA’s Benevolent Fund, which provides financial assistance to members and their families during times of hardship related to death, illness or injury.
Held annually in honour and memory of officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, the tournament welcomed more than 150 golfers this year.
“On behalf of everyone at Community Living Central York, we are deeply grateful for your continued partnership and this evening’s generous donation! Your support means the world to us and plays a vital role in helping us achieve our mission,” said Andrew Fagan, Chief Executive Officer, Community Living Central York. “Thank you for standing with us and our communities most vulnerable — your kindness and commitment truly make a difference.”
YRPA extends sincere thanks to the many sponsors who made this event possible, including SurNet Peterman Insurance, True North Security Group, Harry Black and Brauti Thorning LLP. Over 100 raffle and silent auction prizes were generously donated by community partners, local businesses, and sponsors.
